WALOB V
Tseng Lan Shue to Ngau Tau Kok

Hares - Octopussy & Lost in Space
Write-up - Lubricated Trojan

LIT FB pics here, and Octo's here

The run we had all been waiting for… WALOB 5, the build up to this week’s run had been intense and the hares had given specific instructions to ensure we were all well prepared for the next WALOB instalment. This may have also served to put off a few lesser hashers who feared what would be instore for them….

The instructions to the start point were clear and despite a minibus queue that stretched for miles at Choi Hung station we all managed to make it for the 7.10pm start time, all except Motormouth who apparently turned up late at A only to find no one there and after shouting out into the darkness calling out Lost in Planets name ‘David, David’ in the hope he would appear from Space, she finally found her way by bus to B

I have to admit that with all the build-up to the advertised WALOB V, I awaited this run with some trepidation.... Octo gave us the briefing a Rambo and a Wimps with only 1km difference between them, the Rambos would have shiggy and the Wimps some shiggy with the Rambos having more shiggy hmmm not sure how to determine how bad the more shiggy could be, should I risk the Rambos or take the Wimps. There was some discussion already who would do the Wimps? People were getting nervous taking the Hares phone number and the piece of paper with B on. Hopeless already put his claim in that he had a bad leg so he would be doing the Wimps! Octo informed us we would need to make our decision quickly as the split would come early and she wasn’t wrong, we had literally crossed over the road and there was the split, decision time already! Crackpot heading off right onto the Wimps trail but everyone else taking on the Rambos carrying straight on up the road and so after a quick discussion with Screwtop we both decided to brave the Rambos and stick together in the hope of making it back from WALOB V in one piece.

The Rambo trail then crossed back over the road at a check and went off into the trail but I couldn’t work out then how we would ever join back up with the Wimps, seems Octo had some sneaky Wimps trail planned which looped back to keep us guessing where B would be. Just as I started up onto the trail I saw behind me on the road Kannut Finnish having chosen the Rambos trail and I hoped he knew what he was letting himself in for, would he make it back to the B I thought….. the answer was yes but 2 hours later!

And so the start of the UP, up and up and up we went climbing up the slippery sandy trail Screwtop leading the way with Willy Wonka close behind me up and up the hill, we discussed if this was the shiggy Octo had been talking about but no the Hares had something better in store for us and off into the real bush shiggy we went finally coming out and eventually re-joining with the Wimps. However the Hares still had much more pain to subject us to and we continued to climb up more steps, more trail across the valley until finally coming out onto the road and hopefully the on Home, keeping up with Marmalade Head, Willy Wonka and Screwtop we finally found the finish. Even after arriving at the B I still had no idea where we were. Just over 8km exactly as advertised, a hot, humid and tough run from the Hares and great to be back at B having survived my third WALOB run. Still a few out on the trail the Hares looked nervous waiting for the few remaining hashers to return, would there be a first victim of the WALOB runs?…… thankfully not and the last 2 runners Kannut Finnish and Freerider arrived back just as we were marking to the Food. Thanks to the Hares for setting a great run and ON ON to the Ngau Tau Kwok Cooked Food Market
