Write-up - Gobi Lo

After being away from HK for a whole month I was very much looking forward to running with the LSW hash again, so it was with delight that I saw most of the usual runners at the run start. Hopeless had kindly stepped in as last-minute hare in place of Minja who unfortunately isn't well...

Hopeless gave the pack run instructions peppered with a bit of snark about no shiggy that Winky Twinkie would have included, to everyone's amusement. A runner's run, Hopeless said, and with the ridiculously high humidity that evening we definitely didn't mind a no-shiggy run!

The pack headed out of the park and across the footbridge with the first check, which most of us got wrong except for Screwtop who headed off to Stubbs Road. Screwtop guessed wrongly on the next check, allowing Cute Boar Butt, Pole Dancer, and Gobi Lo to catch up. Onto the concrete trail that leads up to Shiu Fai Terrace, spooking out some dogs and their humans in the process while we called "On On!" and "Trail!".

Pole Dancer nailed the check at Shiu Fai, going up Stubbs Road. I guessed the check wrongly but it allowed me to run with Pipe Rider for a bit, and we had a lovely catch-up about her injured knee and how she shouldn't be running downhill, but doctors and medical advice be damned, because how do you *not* run downhill in Hong Kong?!

Going past the traffic light at Stubbs Road Garden I noticed that there was one lone hasher heading up the shiggy towards Bowen Road. It turned out that it was Comes Up the Rear, who was anticipating a checkback and decided to be clever about it... but there was no checkback called so the pack continued up Stubbs. Screwtop guessed this check incorrectly again so the both of us had a bit of a natter following markings through Tung Shan Terrace heading into Bowen. I asked Screwtop if she was ready for her Free China Hash haring this weekend and she was confident that no one would catch LIT and her. I hope that is the case, ladies! Good luck.

Onto Bowen Road where we lost sight of Pole Dancer, to which Winky Twinkie said he was going to "win the hash". Are we still thinking that hash runs are races to be won?? Tsk tsk Winky....

When I was rock-climbing at the Bowen Wall Crags earlier in the afternoon I saw fresh chalk markings, so I knew the trail was going to take us straight on Bowen for a while. I picked up my pace past Lover's Rock, past the Rambos / Wimps split at Wanchai Gap, and just as I was about to hit Bowen Rd Park I heard someone to my right saying "checkback"! I didn't see that it was Ivy so I carried on, saw the checkback but knew that trail must take us down through the shiggy behind the tennis courts so I skipped it and carried on down to Kennedy Road.

A long, nice run along Kennedy back to Wanchai, but not before seeing the re-join for the R/W at the bottom of Wanchai Gap. Apparently there was a bit of a clusterf*ck here with Freebee "being stupid" (in her own words!) thinking that the trail goes UP Wanchai Gap, so she headed back UP. Discover Her Bay also followed her up. I guess at some point they realised their very silly mistake and headed back down!

On home to ice cold drinks. Thank you Hopeless for stepping up and setting a run last-minute! Get well soon, Minja. On on to Slut Entrails run next week although sadly I won't be there (travelling again).
