Write-up - Gobi Lo

When it is proper cold in Hong Kong, you can do one of these two things: 1. Head to a warm pub and drink beer; 2. Go for a LSW hash run and drink hot chocolate.

It was a no-brainer for me to go to Sai Wan Ho for the hash run that Cute Boar Butt has set, and since she is bringing her JetBoil to make hot cocoa for the runners I thought I would bring my MSR Windburner to do an experiment to see which one boils water quicker.

By the time I got to Sai Wan Ho on my vespa I was so cold I could hardly move my fingers...and as much as I wanted to time myself if I would make the walk from the MTR station to the Sports Centre in 47 seconds (as stated by the hare), I saw the hare starting to give instructions right outside the sports centre: two R/W splits with a "silly R loop", and a few checkbacks which are quite long (the hare was apologetic at this point), and when AFWD asked how long the run was, the hare replied with a "oh, I clocked 12km, on my garmin" much to everyone's dismay.

So with that the pack took off fast along the main road (except for Slut Entrails who unfortunately hurt his knee from too much hashing in the Netherlands) then looping back onto Yiu Hing Rd where a confusing check made a few of us (Screwtop, Discover Her Bay, AFWD and me) conclude that the only way is up on the lift and through the shopping mall. AFWD found trail heading up the road, and as I ran up the reservoir road we found the first long checkback with a giant "SORRY" scribbled in chalk. As we went back down to the last on on, Pole Dancer accused Screwtop and I for being short-cutting bastards, to which we retorted that we had the long CB...

Discover Her Bay led the way up the metal steps, and then across the contour trail to the first R/W split. The R was on the dirt trail, with the W on the steps literally next to the R trail. The hare sure has a sense of humour...

The trail took us to Hong Pak Country Trail where we saw a re-join but could not figure out how we missed the second R/W split... then up to the WWII tunnel where the "silly R loop" was but with no markings IN THE TUNNEL. Apparently the hare did not recce the tunnel as she "didn't want to go in because it was scary"! Luckily for us, it was a left turn at the first fork in the tunnel and the flour could be seen at the exit of the tunnel.

The trail took us up and up, with a few more CBs, but by the time I was caught on the second CB and saw Pole Dancer catching up, it was pretty much a downhill run on beautiful single-track trails, with fine views of the city below.

Another CB on the catchwater, then I let loose and headed down as fast as my legs allowed which was fun. Apparently Octopussy took a bad hash crash at the catchwater but AFWD lent a hand and stayed with her on the way on home.

Once we got back there was hot cocoa waiting for us (thank you hares!), and Blow My Bush was seen helping the hare retrieve the bags from Sai Wan Ho sports centre. Hoepless did a quick cameo, and once Octopussy and AFWD got back, we had the circle at the park, our hearts all warm with LSW hash camaraderie. Thank you hare for setting the run! Well done.

p.s. if you are in the market for a camping stove, the MSR Windburner proved to be the winner!

DDs by Gobi Lo

Cute Boar Butt - Well done hare for setting a run despite such cold conditions!

Pole Dancer - took the "proper" trail up on the check but missed the long CB...

Slut Entrails - running with a sore knee from... too much running in the Netherlands

AFWD - asking Gobi Lo how it feels to be a FRB but she has always been a FRB

Octopussy - taking a hash crash not at the shiggy or rocks or tunnel, but on the flat, boring bit of the catchwater

AFWD - helping Octo after the hash crash

Cute Boar Butt - setting such long checkbacks that she needed to scribble SORRY with chalk

Cute Boar Butt - setting a "silly R loop" which went into the WWII tunnel... but she did not even "recce" the tunnel!

DDs from the floor

Screwtop to Pole Dancer - headlamp was fading, so Pole Dancer stayed with her on the last part of the run

Octopussy to the Hare - for the wonderful hot cocoa

Octopussy to AFWD - being a true hash friend and stayed with her after her particularly bad hash crash

...and to sing the song, the hare, Octopussy and the scribe.

On on!
