Write-up - Octopussy

It was a midnight clear evening crisp and cool but not too cold perfect for a Christmas evening run. Having only just recovered from COVID I was a bit nervous about whether I could run so had arranged to meet Lubricated Mud for an earlier start to walk and give my lungs a try at exercise. The A was in the Central Kwai Chung Park a bit of a hike up to the heights of the park. In fact it was so far up that both Lubricated Mud and I started doubting if we were already on trail when we hadn't even reached the start.

When we arrived we saw that Hopeless and Lost In Space had already arrived. Both were being cautious as Hopeless was preparing himself to go to freezing Scotland and needed to be in tip top shape to brace for the artic conditions ahead. LIS was not too happy having had his Vietnam trip cancelled due to a work booking that was then subsequently cancelled. But we were happy to see him at LSW and for sure the hash and Screwtop's Christmas do would be the perfect cheer up for LIS.

Screwtop started explaining the markings and it sounded complicated with 5 splits and some parts as a lollipop and also a suggested shortcut in case I was passing out. So off we set just 10 minutes before the pack. Immediately we chose the Rambos as actually I was still feeling ok. A little shiggy through the park and onto the road. Then over a bridge to a check and with the first option i went up the driveway and there was the trail running up the stairs behind the basketball courts to a great photo spot where LM and I took a few picks. Then the trail continued to go up up up. Many stairs and elevation. So far my energy was good and physically not a problem at all despite still feeling there's some remnant COVID around. I got every single check correct so we ended up quite far ahead despite walking and only being 10 mins ahead. As we reached part way up the endless stairs we saw Burning Lust, Rooted and Pole Dancer overtaking us. At that point the view was awesome the lights of Kowloon below us and the stars shining bright above. We could have seen the Bethlehem star if it was around with the clearness of the skies that night. The trail them got to the 5th Rambos split and Hopeless had run up to us and I said I'd follow where he ran as he was being cautious and he chose the rambos so off we went to do the 5th rambos after having done the previous 4. Then this trail went around the Shek Lei Pui Reservoir it was a truly still and silent night except for some night fishermen and then we heard somebody coming behind us. It was Wincy she had run on her own and finally caught up to us. So we ran together and took selfies along the way.

When we got back we got a cheer from the crowd and I was not completely excited that i could go tell it on the mountains that in fact i completed and ran the 5 Rambos trails. We were not the last as SST and WCK had come late and were behind us.

At the A we were welcomed back with delicious hot chocolate, Christmas Tree snack, sourdough and some marshmallows. The Christmas music was playing and we all got our Christmas hats on for a selfie! Later we went to the Thai bash which was so cheap and cheerful where our Christmas party continued. It was a great night and even LIS cheered up and went home happy.

Rojohammertoe - visitor from Texas who is working and hashing around the world

Rojohammertoe - chooses to go home for Christmas and not stay in HK and join LSWers here

Wincy - for mistaking Poon Tang for Horny Buttstabber but Poon Tang has no hair

Screwtop - for worrying that nobody would join the hash but ended up with a good crowd, though some bribery may have gone into it
