Write-up - Gary Glitter

A Lamma run steeped in nostalgia and graced by LSW returnees of old. This was run number 2405, set by a veteran, supported by one of the returnees, and not to be outdone this write up, also by a returnee. Note the theme "returnee"

Clear and concise instructions relayed through WhatsApp group to start location, run description and times of ferries to get to the hallowed island, and as I understand, no cock ups here. Having run set at 5.30, and ferries to suit the same, here comes a dig at staggered starts (COVID notwithstanding) and destruction it reeks on the circle. Very sad to say that only the returnees stayed the distance and eventually got the 9.30 ferry back, aka Thermal Dick, Castrato, and your scribe, along with Indy, Octo and CUTR. I started the run at 6.30, and quite surprised the circle had commenced as I was running in. Nevertheless, got an immediate DD and the circle proceeded rapidly to make the 8.30 ferry, Indy aghast as was ready to unleash her DD.

Anyway, enough of the rant and the nostalgic days of LSW (where it wasn't uncommon to end up in Bit Point after the circle and go till 3 am in the morning), let's get on to the run.

Another briefing by the hare to go straight out through the village strip, ignore the distractions, solicitations and head past the football field and temple, where trail would be picked up. Sure enough, trail was found on into the dark and winding yonder of this wonderful island. I was running with Rachael and Fraser and the company was welcome, although I knew that wouldn't last too long with the speedy Rachael trail blazing.

Still able to keep up with my co-runners we hit first closed check that had been marked off, so all good here, as was the pace, then we hit a tricky open check. I went up the blue tarpaulin, right to the top since did not hear any calling from my co-runners below. Bugger this I already have history of getting lost on Lamma, so scurried back down only to find Rachael and Fraser floundering. Rachael then comes across a set of steps behind a locked gate and we give this a go. Sure enough we found flour and off we went up the steps, along a quite overgrown path at the top and back down to the beach path, sound of lapping waves quite soothing, getting us ready for the hike up the hill, where at the top the imposing wind turbine awaited its next visitor to intimidate. I could hear its swishing conversation well before I reached the tower and we stared each other out, as on a check which we solved quite quickly, but only to be taken round the base of the turbine, and this pissed it off, as will be revealed later. We came to the split and I took wimps and the others went Rambo. Quite spooky in the shiggy path by yourself and it was now the angry turbine start to growl at me and kinda scared me and I thought of those cartoons where the machine turns into a monster and gobbles you up. You see a great story to tell the kiddies, GG by name and GG by nature. I picked up the pace and got out of the clutch of the turbine and got back to the W/R trail, where Racheal and Fraser caught me up.

We managed to stay together as a group for the next part of the trail, well marked, and all to note, consistency of marking on one side or the other, reassuring when you're out in the dark alone. We came to the next split and wimps for me and Rambo for the other two. Those consistent markings I just referred to, really helped out as the shiggy trail was quite dense and again I had another spooky experience. I am not sure if it was the ghost of past lost hashers or the rustle of tigers gone by on Lamma but I heard something behind me, turned round to see nothing, and then started to move a bit sharpish to get me back to some kind of civilization and meet up with the rambos.

Alas I must have been running too quickly ahead of the rambos, and now on the steady path to home, where some additional chalk had been laid down, so no more checking for. Met Barbie on the way down, so I knew I was close to home and sure enough back on to the main drag, past the bicycles and on in. Thank you hares for a great run, well-marked, and interesting splits, which I am sure if the pack had started off as one, might have a better chance of staying together and not having to endure lone spooky experiences. This also holds true for the fragmented circle at the end. However, some down downs were done and these will be delivered by Indie as follows:

Down Downs by Gobi Lo

Hares - for setting the best run this year! Certainly better than last week's run..

Castrato and Thermal Dick - both returnees but Indy has only pounced on one of them to set a run

Gary Glitter - welcome back! And for losing the plot because he heard the wind turbines "growling at him menacingly"

Indy and Thermal Dick - I passed Indy on the trails, and ten minutes later, I passed Thermal Dick. But after I got back, Indy showed up first, before Thermal Dick?! How is that possible??

DDs from the floor -

Indy to CUTR - so blind he didn't see the check and ran past it to the bottom of the hill...

Screwtop to Indy - Indy now has such amazing eyesight that she saw a check which Screwtop, Pole Dancer, Thermal Dick & CUTR did not see! Perhaps they need a cornea transplant

CUTR to Lost in Kok (in absentia!) - she was named a few weeks ago and has not returned to the hash since

DD's from Indy -
