Write-up - Octopussy

It was a fairly overcast but dry day when Hopeless went out to set his inaugural 1100th celebratory run. This run that we had been eagerly anticipating after being delayed, postponed, half set and now finally fully set for the 3rd try.

When the message was out that the trail was set, the weather was still good but one minute later the downpour started. Hopeless being himself of course had put down ample wet weather hellbanks and chalk markings on vertical surfaces, but no 'biodegradable' green ribbons this time. But even his very meticulous and frequent markings were no match for the downpour. So he called in two instant co-hares Pole Dancer and Minja Turtle who happened to be around early enough to get a quick briefing a map of the wimps and some big chalk. They set off to re-set the trail and find any remaining markings.

Various groups of runners and walkers arrived. I came with BMT and we met up with Sister Farter, Slippery Banana and Jamie back from holidays and Slippery Banana excited for a wet day run. Then started off on trail. We came to the the road that led up past the Marriot Hotel, SF, SB and Jamie were fresh from holidays full of energy started running up the long hill past myself and BMT who was still recovering from her holidays and me suffering from a pulled muscle, we waved them on and cheered for them... however within 10 metres they also stopped running and just walked all the way past the Asia Centre to Kennedy Road, oh well I guess those holiday beers did have an impact.

The trail went from Kennedy road through a nice paved but slippery trail onto Barrett, now I've been hashing a while but I'm sure that I had not done that trail before, or maybe it looked different in the wet. BMT was taking the wet trail very gingerly after falling and bruising her butt last week, she was determined not to fall this week. The trail then wound past the Island school and then down onto Bowen road where we started running full blast but suddenly I heard some sounds and lights from below and had a gut feeling that they must be hashers. So we turned back and found an interesting small shiggy, workmen track trail that went down and ended up near the tennis courts. There we saw a whole group of hashers, Hickey Longstocking, Deb K, Junko, Foot Fetish, Pipe Rider, Barely Legal, Freebee, Pole Dancer and Minja Turtle looking lost and trying to find trail. I remembered this trail from Hopeless' Carlsberg Run which Freebee and Pipe Rider had also joined yet they were looking in the wrong direction... I confidently showed them the right way and we all ran together down Kennedy Road to the Petrol Station, then we all as a big group did the check together. It felt like the good old days. All checking, calling and running, the nostalgia brought tears to my eyes... or was it just the rain and sweat. Anyway I found the trail going along Kennedy road towards Wanchai and I was so happy to be the FRB that I ran far past the turn off. I heard a big 'trail' call from behind and saw lights going down into the estate. When I ran back I was shocked that in my showing off I would miss a massive chalk arrow turning in.... (It was only afterwards that I realised that the co-hares were actually marking and they were running with us and behind me).

We all ran dangerously through the streets, up the overpasses and across the roads, yes even the walkers were running. We ran past the police station back to Lockhart Road playground stationed next door to the station, the safest place to be to not get fined. There we met up with the hare in his bright yellow 'target practice' I love Hopeless T-Shirt and Timbits who had apparently been on the trail too, but looking super dry and already onto a beer.

Apparently this was the trail that Hopeless did when he first joined LSW in 1990 where a few runners were not even a twinkle in their parent's eyes. A fun run in the rain especially with the group being able to run together and then a humorous historical tour of the LSW hash life of Hopeless afterwards in the circle. Congrats Hopeless! We look forward to your 1200 run soon!

The hare - Hopeless.... Congrats on setting your 1100 version 2 run.. after injury... although still in recovery!

Hopeless - 'awesomest' trail around Wanchai environs mirroring somewhat his 'most awesome' LSW run 'numero uno'!

Hopeless - unfortunately torrential rain poured down after setting, so 2 'co-hares' had a briefing and given chalk... to resurrect markings if needed...??

Pole Dancer / Minja Turtle - 'stepped up' as 'co-hares'...Says Hopeless 'they were the best choice to remark trail as they are lower to the ground.. rather than the long legged tall ones...'.. thanks PD and MT!

Lost In Translation - even though at work was sending out messages on the LSW WhatsApp group re the trail... as Hopeless could not due to rain-drenched unworkable phone!!

Octo to Hopeless - thanks for setting a trail like the good old pre-covid days when the hash mostly ran as a pack...

So thanks again Hopeless for 'most awesome 1100 trail'... and thanks also to the co-hares Pole Dancer and Minja Turtle for helping out!

And the most famous hash song in the world was sung by... the Hare / PD.. and MT reading the words off the back of PD's hash shirt... (another Hopeless creation!!)..
