Write up - Foot Fetish

A thunderstorm with Amber Rain started in the early afternoon. We all were worried about the hares. Firstly becasue of the difficult conditions and secondly because it was the first time for Deborah K to hare and for Hickey Longstocking being the lead hare. I also hoped the thunder lighting was going to stop, as we (Luisa, Junko and I) were determined to make it to the run.

Luckily it stopped raining and the thunderstorm warning was cancelled when our group reached A near Quarry Bay Sitting Out Area.

Both hares were fine and freshened up after the trail setting in the rain. Hickey Longstocking gave us a short briefing. Telling us there is no R/W split, one run only, there isn't any shiggy, a lot of the markings might be washed away but we can simply follow the trail on Komoot using the file she shared with us. By the time we set off, the rain clouds were gone, the temperature after the storm was quite pleasant and equipped with Komoot, we the 'Early Start Group' confidently head to Greig Road then up the stairs in the direction of Tai Tam Country Park (Quarry Bay Extension).

The Quarry Bay Tree Walk and the Hong Pak Country Trail seems familiar. Me shouting out excitingly 'ON ON' every time when seeing the pretty yellow ribbons and the neatly folded blue and purple paper markings the hares laid out for us. Luisa is constantly double checking on Komoot that we are on track. Soon after the first ascent Crash Test Dummy over took us. Like a pro he runs without bag nor mobile phone, but with a big smile on his face. For about few hundred meters we could still hear him shouting 'TRAIL'. We stopped following him when we reached the first view point. At that time it was still bright, we felt very relaxed, enjoying the beautiful scenery and exploring around the entrance of the Japanese tunnels. We didn't feel the urge to rush as nobody else after Crash Test Dummy has passed us. We had a good laugh at the 'Sheep's Head Rock' posing T-Rex for the photo shoot our group is famous for.

Near the location of the demolished Mount Parker Cable Car we realized that we hadn't seen a marking for a while. From time to time we saw a ribbon but they look different from the ones before. Suddenly we found ourselves in the dense jungle, scrambling up and down, over muddy puddles, climbing over rocks and crossing little streams. It was dark alread and we had to put on our headlamps. I didn't hear anybody other than Luisa and Junko discussing which way we should take while studying the Komoot map. Although it crossed our minds that something might be wrong because the trail was significantly worse than the hare describe to us during the briefing and we didn't see nor hear other hashers. But the Komoot navigation confirmed that we are 'ON ON'. Sometimes one of us is screaming: 'Watch out: big spider', 'Careful', 'AHHH, something just crawled over my leg!'. However, at no time we lost our hash spirit, even after Luisa slipped and hit her nose at a tree branch and Junko tripped over a root. Both accidents only happened because they were focused looking at the mobile phones trying to figure out the correct direction. Good that we still had mobile reception. We were able to inform the hares not to worry about us and that they should continue to the bash without us. I guess by then almost everyone who started after us has returned to A and wonder where we are. After few turns and circling around, we felt very relieved when we finally reached a paved road. Not long after we crossed path with Pipe Rider and her run companion near the kilns used during the world war. I was thinking, phew, now I know where we are! Together we run back to A. The group was just heading off to the restaurant when they saw us. We found out that we did the Super Rambo becasue we followed the Komoot navigation that was shared with us by mistake. Anyway, big thanks to the hares for this great and adventurous evening. Although we were quite exhausted afterwards, hence didn't join the bash, Luisa, Junko and I truly enjoyed every moment. Without a doubt we will remember this exciting run for a long time.
