Write-up - Comes Up The Rear

Hares G&V and Hickey Longstocking! established the first Little Sai Wan run from Sung Wong Toi MTR Station. The run notice gave an optimistic estimation of 6 mins from the MTR Exit to "A" - when it was more like a 15 min walk from alighting the train to arriving at the "A".

The "A" was a picturesque setting among the manicured gardens near to the former site of the Kowloon Walled City. The run amounted to a distance of 7.2km for the wimps and 9.5km for the Rambos.

Overall impression:

The run proceeded in a counterclockwise direction etching out a GPS image that bears a vague resemblance to the British Isles without Ireland. The area that resembles "Scotland" was etched on trail below Lion's Rock and fittingly represented the highest point on the run, no doubt reflecting G&V's thoughts of home and her looming departure back to Edinburgh.

Back to the run:

The departure out of Kowloon City Park featured an exploration of roadways and the many scenic parks that make up the areas of Na Tsin Wai, Wong Tai Sin, Wong Tau Hong, Lok Fu and other areas. These are the same areas that were once favoured grounds for plane spotters that would idle weekends away watching Boeing 747s navigate the dangerous approach to Kai Tak.

A key section of the run was the underground walkway beneath Leung Chung Road that brought a fright to runners who had departed without an N-95 face mask on their person. This bought access to a system of pathways that leads up to the access to the main trail to Lion Road. A check-back sent the runners along a westerly direction through Lion Rock Country Park. Probably the highlight of the run was a system of pathways traversing an area above the Lion Rock Tunnel that were surprisingly gentle-sloped with features of pine trees interspersed with sandy soil and long grass, possibly new virgin territory.

A rapid descent down led to an industrial element and a tight squeeze between a huge water pipe and a building - and eventually on to a knee-jarring section along the freeway and eventually Cheung Road Bauhinia Garden. From here the next major feature was a surprise departure up to a check on Junction Road, with an unintuitive dispatch onto more thigh-burning hillclimb up to one of the great plane spotting sites on Lok Fu Park. A few remaining checks brought the runners back onto Junction Road and a fairly direct route back to Kowloon City Park. Congratulations on a challenging and heavily check-laden first LSW run of the summer for 2022.

DDs by Octopussy

The hares - for a run that wasn't long enough, have enough concrete, not enough checks etc.

The hares for using invisible green ribbon

Hopeless for being the inspiration for the invisible green ribbon

Octo for being the first and original user of green ribbon that Hopeless criticised for being invisible

Lost in Space for being a returnee

Lost in Space for being away for 2 years and coming back and not recognising most of the LSWers

Lost in Space for predating the LSW chat group he was around during the days of only emails. Then Hopeless and Freebee shared about the very early days of mail out notices to runners using real paper, stamps and envelopes. When the fax was invented it was such a joy and convenience to them all.

Freebee for being the most historical hasher starting in 1989 which she disputes and thinks it was earlier

Hopeless for being around long enough to set a LSW hash trail through the actual Kowloon walled city before it was torn down

Foot Fetish and Louisa for being the FRBs on the Rambos but not clearing the spider webs so Octo had to run through them again

Hares for setting a snake free trail though it would have been a very delicious buffet for snakes with all the fat toads on trail

Lost in Space to Foot Fetish for forgetting her hash name after being away for too long

CTD stand in Freewheel for being Scottish like the hare but totally opposite because he got every single check wrong

Virgin hare Deborah W came back from the reccie with around 10 big purple welts on her left ankle which really looked like hickeys.

LIS suggested she looked like Pippy Long Stocking and indeed she would not have been bitten if she'd worn long stockings so she was named:

Hickey Long Stocking

Foot Fetish and Louisa had to ask the meaning of hickey and then said it in Swiss German with a sucking schlurping sound.

Deborah K said in Korean it's called a bite mark

We all learned something today thanks to the hares for an enjoyable trail and delicious Thai food at a reasonable price!
