Write-up - Wai Chee Kok

Run 2378 was more than just a regular Wednesday night hash; it was also the annual Anzac Day run, normally hosted by Indy and Octopussy. Indy is out from quarantine but probably got too friendly with the Grey Goose and is now recovering at home, rehabilitating with some Smirnoff. More importantly, it was a run to remember and honour our fellow hasher who recently passed away, Parky. He has been a hasher for nearly half a century, with his first run back in 1983 when he was just 17... hahaha, yeah right!

The run started from Wan Chai Park where Macau Drunk and I headed out together. The Hare's briefing was that if you don't get the SR/R spilt by 7.30 pm then don't start it. I planned to try and do that, so I shot off onto Queen's Road East and found no markings. I headed in the direction of Kennedy Road and also got nothing. I then spotted Macau Drunk going up the footbridge over Queen's Road East, so I followed him and found markings that took us across the footbridge, passed the high school where a homemade bomb was found a couple of years ago during the riot.

The footbridge led onto a private road, where at the end road, I had to climb over the barrier, onto a Shiggy trail that led down to a small play round on Stubbs Road, and onto a check which I solved. I went slowly up Stubbs Road and found an open Check by Stubbs Road Garden marked as "solved", but it turned out to be a Check Back. I ran back to the Check only to spot a tiny question mark just beyond the crossed-out arrow, pointing to the garden. It was here I bumped into Macau Drunk again!

We ploughed on, past a construction site, up the crappy stairwell that looked like a sewage drain. Macau Drunk said someone is finally going to fix it after 25 years; the truth is that the scaffolding was there to demolish a building close by and not for the stairwell. I headed up the stairwell, leaving Macau Drunk behind, and ended up on Tung Shan Terrace that finally led to Bowen Road.

After some 200m, I turned left and went up the stairwell that led to Stubbs Road. Crossed over Stubbs Road, walked up to Rosary Hill School, and found a Shiggy trail which was relatively flat but felt very creepy and sensed it was a kind of place that is infested with mosquitos. I quickly ran through there and heard the On-Ons called, then found the R&W split.

The Rambo was a 250 meter ascent, endless steep uphill Shiggy trail that I have never done before. I caught up with the cricket group; they were soaked through, with one limping. At end of the Shiggy trail was a Check, one direction to Blacks Link and the other to Mount Nicholson. With the markings not clear, I went uphill towards mount Nicholson and later found On-On hiding behind a rock. I finally reached the top of Mount Nicholson, round the transmitter station and bumped into Minja Winja. It was very foggy at the top. I descended, passed MW (who apparently hasn't hashed for about eight years and climbing hills or going down Shiggy was a bit challenging)

Following the markings, guided by the metal square pipe and ropes, passed Twinky Winky, Pipe Rider and Sticky Sex Toy that took us onto a "sandy and slippery" terrain where I found Screw Top looking for the trail. I guided her out of the "slippery" area, to the railings, onto the catch water, climbed down a steep wall, and ran down some steps that led to Blacks Link.

Heading down Blacks Link we found no markings when we got to Deep Water Bay Road. We went back up and found markings on the right, pointing up to a Shiggy path, to a Tunnel with a CB inside it. This is where Screw Top took a picture of me at the mouth of the tunnel. We came out of the tunnel and continued along the Shiggy path until we reached the petrol station on Wong Nai Chung Gap Road, opposite the tennis courts.

There was some confusion here, Screw Top found markings on the other side of Wong Nai Chung Gap Road, and I found markings behind the petrol station. I did a small loop before joining Screw Top, headed down along Wong Nai Chung Gap Road until we reached some steps on the right leading to Blue Pool Road, and past the French International School onto Tai Hang Road. It led us to some steps onto Green Lane, leading onto Shing Woo Road then to Kwai Fong Street and finally to "B".

At "B", TimTam biscuits were laid out as expected, but no Anzac cookies as Indy was too busy with the Smirnoffs. Instead, we got some Castlemaine XXXX as a substitute, and Australians wouldn't give a XXXX for anything else.

Here's to Parky, we raise a glass to you! Rest in Peace.
From your fellow Hashers.

Down-downs by Hopeless at the run site

Cans/cups were raised in memory of Parky.

Screwtop was called out for pushing past CUTR and obviously with holiday eyes mis-read an ONON as a "T".

Poledancer, on the other hand decided to use his absence of the 3 previous runs that week up Mt. Nicholson to go exploring the previous RS2H3 runs and tunnels.

Welcome back to Macau Drunk and even longer term absentee Ninja Winja!

The cricketers are back in the nets (Thursdays) so, to the delight of the ladies, they will keep coming to LSWH3 on Wednesdays!

Non-runners Poon Tang & Timbits.

Hares were called in several times, thanks for the run, no ANZAC gear (only Hopeless really wearing any ANZAC stash...), XXXX beer and Tim Tams!
