Hang Hau Village

Hare - Hopeless
Write up - Blow My T*ts

St Andrew’s Day run

The peeps - Dame Invader, Barely Legal, Bobbledick, Cheesy, CUTR, Minja Turtle, Dr Evil, LIS, BMT, Hannah Montana, Wancai Wanker, Indy, Klingon, Tight Lips, Screwtop, Freewheel, Pig Fokker

I travelled to the start of the run at Hang Hau village with Screwtop. As we exited the MTR we remembered which exit but also recalled the hare’s instructions that there may not be any chalk markings to the start. Umm, “How many times have we started a run from here Screwtop?” “Lots” came the reply. “So how come we can’t find our way without any chalk markings?” No reply, we both knew the answer - we natter our way to the start each week without paying attention to anything other than the chalk markings and therefore never know our way to anywhere without them!

The hare had just about returned from the trail when we arrived, Hopeless but no LIT. This is the St Andrew’s day run - something must have happened for LIT to miss it. Indeed, much to our shock and sorrow we learn that LIT is in TKO hospital and very poorly indeed. Amazing then from Hopeless that despite this he has still managed to set the run. At this point I will say how much everyone sends their best wishes to LIT for a speedy recovery, you will be sorely missed over the coming weeks!

Hopeless briefings are always brief! Chalk, flour, checks, Checkback, oh and some shiggy - not just any shiggy but given that it is Hannah Montana’s birthday there is some Hannah shiggy! Oh no groans the pack, not Hannah shiggy! Yes, but it’s only a short section - so that’s ok then??

Out of the car park and up Ying Yip Road we soon turn off onto a trail up towards Duckling Hill. The first couple of checks had kept the pack together but by the time I reached the 3rd check it had already been resolved meaning the FRB’s had forged ahead…. but not all of them apparently as Cheesy came past me stating how it’s rare to arrive at a marked check - well, it happens to the best of us Cheesy! Hannah Montana also came past so clearly not all the FRB’s were at the front at this stage! Running now with the “middle order” Screwtop reaches a locked gate first, no way through but we can hear the front runners calling trail??? Minja finds the trail up along a fence, a very narrow and overgrown trail, barely a trail at all. He leads the way through the heavy growth, shortly after which my clothes feel itchy, I look down to find a million spikes from some plant in my t-shirt and shorts. Arghhh - the annoying type that stick deep into the fabric and can only be removed by being painstakingly plucked out one by one!! At the top Minja turns round, looks down at his clothes and declares he’s all “pricked up” - that got Barely Legal swiftly back on trail! So, that must have been the Hannah shiggy, it was only supposed to be a small section?? Umm no, lots more shiggy to come round this hill before finally finding a path!

Eventually, trail leads down the hill and onto Po Lam Road where I completely lose trail and continue onwards despite not seeing any markings. At this stage I should just head back to the last seen trail but frustrated and feeling I’m not far from the finish I compound the problem by continuing in vain, hoping to find a shortcut. Barely Legal had followed me and after some searching we decide all the underpasses and road routes look the same and head back to where we last saw trail. Finally, we finish at least 20 mins later than we should have! Note to self - don’t do that again! Thanks however to Barely Legal for being sweet and good company even when we messed up!

Huge thanks to Hopeless for setting a great run despite having far more important things to do!
