Kowloon Park

Transport challenges, especially leaving a run, with MTR early closures ("curfews") means that hashing is not quite so simple nowadays. This week's hare also, thoughtfully, tried to encourage attendees by offering a "Super Wimp" and "Wimp" options to her last offering, which only had "Rambo" or "Super Rambo". (Big Bitch would have been turning in horror at the idea on the golf course in Spain at the previous event of R/SR only).

Such MTR challenges also meant Lost In Translation's attempt to go the 'easier route" to Kowloon Park via TST MTR Exit A (quite logical) rather than Jordan Exit D were foiled by said exit being closed, along with exit B, meaning an extra-long walk to "The Cartoon Star Avenue" of Kowloon Park.

As is typical on LSWH3 people put aside the challenges and 19 runners turned up for an urban exploration of the central peninsula of Hong Kong. Prizes were promised to anyone who could find screwtops on trial, and also having a photo taken with a famous statue. As nobody took their phone on trail then only the first category of prize was up for grabs later at the restaurant.

The newly returned Telecum led the pack back up Nathan Road, with CCF in hot pursuit, and across, right, onto Austin Road, and the first Check. Of course this went to Gun Club Barracks past KGBC, and the (Hopeless) predicted CB shortly thereafter. For which he solved the next three Checks to end up at the back of QE Hospital and a Check on King's Park Rise. Having solved this and gone up to the reservoir, a CB down the steps threw the pack into disarray. No trail, back and fore, to be found anywhere. Hannah & Robin, Ruggero, LIT, Sweaty Snail Gobbler and Castrato weaving back and fore for around 5 minutes before trail was finally found down the steps to Waterloo Road.

The Check there pulled everyone back together as it, again, surprisingly, headed back towards Jordan, and, in fact, ran into Temple Street Market, it's old Temple, and an (amazing?) array of ladies hanging around stairwells, all dressed in black.

I'm not sure what they were protesting, maybe a lack of bra sales in HK because not many seemed to be wearing any for some reason..... and, meanwhile, back on the run, Dogshit, LIT and the pack were all over the place tracking down trail at the end of Temple Street, the front runners not doing a great job of calling on across Jordan Road. Around KGV Park, back almost to the beginning of the run, only for the run to turn right and skirt all the way around Kowloon Park back to Haipong Road and the W/R split. By then we'd clocked up around 6km (where the Wimps was predicted to be "around 4.5km"), so Hannah & Robin headed for home while the likes of CCF, CUTR, LIT & Telecum decided to go for the Rambos.

"That Check" on Canton Road caused a few issues before trail eventually was found onto Star Ferry, Avenue of The Stars (Bruce Lee), and turning back to Haipong Road and the on in. Freewheel was just finishing the Wimps as the Rambos came tearing past in the sprint finish to the end.

Nice trail, an area where not too many traffic lights have been smashed up. The one set that was, the police were somewhat confused as to whether to treat the "jay running" hashers as part of their "traffic management" task, or just let us take our own risks - which, of course, we did!

Next week or two may be a big factor on how/if we hash for the next few months, fingers crossed we are able to go about our business without too much trouble now. Certainly the lack of taxis Wednesday, with the 9pm closure of the MTR, meant it was a real headache getting home. But it was another good night on LSWH3 - thanks hares!
