Getting to the Hash should always be the easy part of the evening. This time, with 2 Hash virgins, Leana and Nigel in tow, I was on a mission to find soda water for Indy in the narrow window between my last meeting and getting there early enough for the briefing.

After several false starts based on “local knowledge” from our virgin hare, we finally found some cocktail size cans of Schweppes. Indy doesn’t drink cocktails. Too late. On On. So before even getting to A I’d racked up 2-3 personal down-downs and at least one for virgin hare Nigel.

With a light drizzle falling and wet slippery roads beneath our feet, we arrived at A from the wrong (supermarket) direction to no hare. “She’s still out setting trail” noted Hopeless. “Resetting due to rain?” “Nope, just setting. She’s late” “Ahh…”

While I had managed to suitably brief Leana on the perils of Hashing and kitted her out with jackets and head torches and water, I’d forgotten to mention any of this to Nigel who turned up in white tennis shoes, no water and no torch. Oops. One more down-down for me.

We launched off towards the station and a short climb. The usual FRBs setting pace as we looked for flour instead of chalk in the wet. The open check behind the bus terminal took a while, but not as long as the next couple up the stairs on Ko Chui Rd. The pack was almost all together when the open fence next to the locked gate was discovered that lead in to Yau Tong reservoir. Single file along the edge of the wall came to a quick halt when Hopeless saw the first of many snakes along the path.

Through the reservoir park and the real stairs and climbing began. This is when the pack spread out. I was making sure Nigel was with us and left Leana to run with Rami who is now a several run veteran in comparison.

For a virgin hasher and someone who doesn’t really exercise much, the stairs do take their toll. As we climbed the stairs off O King road towards the trig point at Chiu Keng Wan Shan Nigel started to struggle to the point where not only did the walkers pass us, even Brother A caught up and passed us.

The next section was where the lack of headtorch and inappropriate footwear really amped up the displeasure of our virgin. The casual chitchat turned to heavy breathing on the way up, but on the way down through the rain soaked slippery shiggy in the dark Nigel was silent other than mutterings under his breath that I couldn’t quite make out and the odd yep as he lost his footing or smashed his head into branches.

Finally, we got to the graveyard and on to solid ground. We caught up with Brother A and I left our virgin in his care as I pushed on. On the road out of the graveyard I saw a torch coming towards me. This can’t be right, there is only one way, there can’t be a checkback here. It was Wai Chi Kok and her amazing sense of direction running the route backwards. Little did she know she had to climb the wet shiggy next instead of slide down it.

Back onto Wilson and other than the wet leaves and so many more snakes, it was a smooth run back to A and on on to the bash, albeit via a slight short cut by me in my rush to get back.

Great run Rooted that started with live haring through drizzle that could have gone wrong in so many ways but didn’t.

Down Downs by Indy

The Hare - Rooted! Excellent run considering the repetitive rainy conditions..... everyone (except for those who suffer from 'ophiophobia'...) came back as happy hashers!!

Rooted - Live hare.... back within 90 mins but kept looking at watch like an expectant parent... for hashers to return!

Rooted - 'Elevation' not an issue...... but 292 mtrs....

Blow My Tits - last week's hare 'no elevation really', said she.... but 350 metres!!

Rooted - The snake run.... 6 of the bright green bamboo pit viper snakes spotted on trail..... but the hare saw 0 when laying trail (maybe running too fast!!)

What is someone called who has a 'fear of snakes'?.... no answer from the crowd??..... Ophiophobia.....

Ophiophobiacs on trail - of the most vocal were Blow My Tits and Poon Tang..

Snake lover - Screwtop! happily stopping near snakes to take pics on trail and posting before bash!!

Screwtop - not at all worried that that wee green little thing is of venemous variety...

Castrato - (in absentia!)... whilst living at Lamma had been bitten by a bamboo pit viper hanging from a tree.... airlifted to Queen Mary for a couple of days of their hospitality!... a little more 'respectful' of those little fellas now

Hopeless - before the run had sent text to ManuLife group!!....... 'buy Soda water as none at Yau Tong!'

Jonathon - Logistics Manager for the ManuLife shoppers - Nigel / Leana / Rami

Nigel - bought 'cocktail size top of the shelf' soda waters...

Manulife Virgins - Nigel + Leana..... roped in (encouraged!) by Jonathon and Brother A... Welcome!!!

Jonathon - omitted to tell Nigel to bring a torch / water... and running shoes.... (but making sure that Leana was well kitted out!!)

Nigel - wearing white tennis shoes to the hash!!

Brother A to Manulife team - Manulife is a Canadian company - when one Canadian drinks.... on in Comes Up the Rear!

LSW virgin - Ninja Whinga!! Great to see you at LSW.....

And when one USA hasher drinks - Ninja and DHL....

Wai Chee / Poon Tang - managing to do the run backwards... (and not delberately!!)

Brother A - despondent with the weight of age weighing upon him! Why?? His 24 year old daughter just got engaged...

BA - 'and before u know it.. there will be kids and I will be a grandfather!!!... And we have 3 girls.....!!"

BA to Jonathon - 3 boys.... no problem to him.... yet!!!

BA / Camel Driver... BA says to her 'You are in your prime!!'... referring to ?????.. Que??

BMT / Indy to BA - so what are we?... Reply... 'You are in your 2nd prime......!!' (or 3rd for yours truly??)

Returnee - Camel Driver / Rami

Octo to Bubbleduck / Comes Up the Rear - returnees after their mountain / rock climbing expedition...

Octo to BD / CUTR - had planned to go hiking 'together' supposedly to Haba Mountain in Yunnan Province China... but did not manage to meet each other although in same area. BD had to ditch CUTR as BD did not have any phone there with access to non-Chinese apps!!

Bubbleduck / Gary Glitter - GG very pleased to see BD at the run tonight... otherwise he would have been the 'eldest statesman' at the run!

Jonathon - 'volunteering' to set next week's run as Gin N'Vomit working out of town! Thanks!

Camel Driver - 'volunteering' to co-hare.... Thanks!!

Rooted (in absentia) - great Snake run.... entertaining for... most!!

And the most famous song was sung from all the LSW hashers.....!
