A very warm and humid evening greeted the assembling pack in Lok Fu, with many of us jumping around and slapping our legs well before the briefing, not in preparation for the run of course but in reaction to sustained attacks from mozzies.

The briefing was simple according to the hare, usual markings nothing too technical - until it got complicated!! “Oh, just in case the gate is locked when you get to it, come back on trail 100m and shimmy up the drain pipe”?? “Oh, and there’s a part where you have to climb over the a fence and down the stairs, be careful because you can’t get to the bottom of the stairs” - no kidding a 10ft jump needed (that bit not mentioned at briefing stage)!

On those instructions the pack were off! Out of the park towards Junction Road and within 1km we’re climbing the Checkerboard hill to the top - amazing views and a wonderful bit of HK history. The evening is especially humid and hashers are already starting to feel fatigued or at least I was. Though I might add that Poledancer did the wimps so things must have been bad! Running down Broadcast Drive I can no longer keep pace with Screwtop and Hannah, I soon lose them and trail but find Macau Drunk is much more observant having found trail easily! On to Leung Cheung Road and again I lose trail, I’m starting to get pi**ed off now - ffs woman concentrate!! Fortunately, Longhorn has no trouble finding trail leading off the road and must wonder what on earth I had been doing to get lost so easily! The trail heads up an embankment and onto the now infamous fence with stairs you can’t use. I take a look, Longhorn takes a look- ooh, not easy to see the height of the drop until you land (hopefully on your feet but certainly ending on your arse)!

Onwards along the catch water, it’s not possible to run as the edge is narrow and looks slippy so I put my foot into the leafy soft growth alongside only to stand on a discarded bbq fork! Yes, a bbq fork on the edge of the catch water! It pierces straight through the sole of my shoe and into my foot! Arrggh, this takes me to the floor in pain! I release the fork from my shoe but can’t bring myself to look at the damage to my foot so get back up, well on one foot anyway and hobble along for a while! As Screwtop aptly put it later- I got forked on trail!!!!

The route continues through Lion Rock Park and on to Morse Park where thankfully I am running with Macau Drunk and Frank the Plank with whom trail finding can be shared, not particularly evenly as Macau Drunk seemed to find most of it. We lose trail at the very end, opting to look for exit B in the Mtr and on home!

Many thanks and well done to the hares for a really super run enjoyed by all, the Checkerboard is a real point of interest, some shiggy, elevation and wonderful evening views.

On to the bash, delicious Chinese food expertly ordered by Wai-Chee and Sticky at a bargain price with lots of beer and even more fun! Jonathan asked me to put it in writing that it was the best food yet!
