So for the fifth week in a row the hares have promised ‘VIRGIN TRAIL’ – well, OK, LSWH3 virgin shiggy.

Arriving at my second Anzac day run in a row – a number of the small, but enthusiastic pack remarked that it didn’t feel like a year since the last one (the infamous figure of 8 which had Indy marking behind the pack as we went round and round in circles in the Sai Kung mid-levels, and a slightly bemused snake) – Indy answered that it had been brought forward 3 weeks. Good, that cleared that up then.

Oct explained the markings – which were in coloured chalked (No. figure 8 on the trail, that’s a big NoNo hash list). Standard LSW markings – which the scribe was kinda getting used to as this was the third local LSW run this year!

After waiting and waiting and waiting for the late runners – Oct gave up and let the pack go, out and left up Po Lo Che – with Hopeless/LIT making the front running, despite 12 klicks on the ladies hash the night before. Sticky, opting to chat to the visiting hashers with Crackpot – bringing up the back of the compact pack.

Whilst Hopeless suspected it – LIT hit the first of the evenings not too brutal Checkbacks. Que some faffing – before Hopeless found trail into Sai Kung's midlevel’s, out and then predictably (but not disappointingly) up past the Fire station.

Up Hong Kin Rd (which is where you are allowed to test your car horn – fact!) – Hopeless and LIT (can you see the pattern) smashed into the slightly less polite C/B, leading PCT/Hopeless to charge into the bush on the obvious back route into Lions park – only to find zip. Amazingly – Sticky found trail, up and along instead – with LIT taking the spider eating lead. Whilst the pack remarked on this being virgin trail – of course Hopeless had used it 7 years ago for the Saikung Hash! Like obvs!

The visiting hasher demonstrated a very soft touch with spider webs (the exact opposite of Hopeless preferred method of crashing through them) – with LIT taking damage in the shiggy, and lots of Effing and Jeffing – until we hit the contour path. Octo had obviously been feeling guilty – as the next check, if it was 5 meters to the first mark I would have been exaggerating.

Into Lions Park – Chris had by now caught up but proved to be very dependent on Hopeless’s local knowledge. With the trail taking Indy’s favourite forest shortcut from Che Keng Tuk Rd, down and over Hiram’s Highway and past the horticulture centres.

Another super polite Check – pulled the pack (perhaps predictably) up towards the grave yard – with the 130-meter shunt about as popular as you would expect.

Past the pictures of Cupid – down Mang Kung WO Rd, Chris hit the predictable C/B – instead the trail taking us on an enjoyable roller coaster of paths (or an idiot loop) and back onto the same road, with the visiting hashers in tow.

It could then only be down and past my gaff and on into Hebe Haven Yacht club.

About a beer later Sticky and Crackpot rocked up – having been saved from a pack of (harmless) village dogs by the saintly Wan chai Wanker (yes, I am surprised as you are).

A very enjoyable trail (they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (ref: my upcoming Southside run)) and fun ONON with the most comedy drunk and aggressive Australian pair at the table next to us demonstrating that they do let just about anyone join Hebe nowadays.

Well done Indy and Oct – just a shame more LSW’er couldn’t join! Put next year in your dairy’s now!
