So by 7.00, a reasonable size pack had accumulated in the usual sitting-out area at the bottom of Mt Parker Road. Discussion of whether or not the rain would hold off while we ran ensued, with everyone staying well clear of the hare’s route diagram, which looked like some eccentric PhD student’s Venn diagram gone mad.

The briefing was held, with an explanation along the lines of, “there’s a R/W split, then another one, then another one, but you can short-cut between the 2nd and 3rd, so you can RWW, or WRW, or RRW, or…”, at which point I think I tuned out, because it looked too confusing and I figured I’d be doing Rambos anyway. When asked what distance the run was, the Hare gave the somewhat cryptic reply “1 hour”. Which led to further questions about which combination of R’s and W’s that was, and whether hours were a valid measure of distance anyway. Then it all got too hard and we were off!

Along Quarry Bay Street towards Mt Parker Lodge, then an unexpected check back, which had everyone wondering whether we were actually going back to A and in a different direction. But no, most of the way back and we came across the hare, surreptitiously marking on On On into an alley, up steps, and to a fence that, as the hare put it, the men can be gentlemanly and help the ladies with. So gallant!

From there it was into the Quarry Bay Tree Walk, with the front-runners surprising two of the largest pigs I’ve seen in HK, before a check at the giant waterway. The Rambo split took the Rambos scrambling up a stream bedecked with giant boulders, before eventually coming out onto Mt Parker Road. A check there reunited the front pack, for a quick sprint on-on down the hill.

Unfortunately, a very subtle marking onto Sir Cecil’s Ride was completely missed by yours truly and Burning Lust, resulting in a 200m hike back up Mt Parker Road and onto that trail. After a good kilometre or so of contour trail, the pack headed down the stairs towards Mt Parker Road again, only to discover a check back that resulted in about 10 mins of faffing around and head-scratching, before someone called trail and we ran on, crossing Mt Parker Road and back onto the top part of the Quarry Bay Tree Walk. From there, past the wartime communal stoves, down to the previously mentioned giant waterway, down through Mr Parker Lodge and back to A.

All in all, an excellent run from the hare, which a good mixture of running, scrambling, and enough checks to keep the pack somewhat together. Good work!
