Australia Day Run Hares - Indy & Octo Pack LIT FB photos There was a large turnout for this year's Aussie Day run with expectations high for another fine evening of hash running and camaraderie. A few faces from days gone by also returned for this A to B run from the Cricket Club. After the briefing, the pack was dispatched up the steps from the main road before the hare had fully explained the unusual start to this run. In a case of "separated at birth", the rambos trail immediately broke away from the wimps at the top of the steps, to join the Tai Tam Reservoir Road on an arduous climb up the road towards the Wilson Trail. Whereas, the Wimps carried straight on along the catchwater. While the hare was managing the "birth" at the top of the steps, Poledancer and BobbleDick were still changing and had their trousers down. Wondering whether or not the bags should be left unattended, both hashers panicked, but BD was quicker to finish changing and was off leaving Poledancer to ponder over the problem. Rooted and Burning Lust, still training for Sunday's KOTH, led the charge - running not walking -- up the road, which immediately resulted in the thinning of the pack from a tight group into an ant like column. Rather then ascending the HK Trail, chalk markings directed the pack towards a picnicking area on the left and the first open check of the run. The check gave a bit of a breather for the other runners to catch up, even as Poontang, Hannah Montana, Mr Dogshit, Cremebrule and Cheesyflyingfox threw themselves into solving the check. Rooted eventually sorted it, finding trail leading up the left hand side on an embankment through thick bush laden with thorns and undergrowth. A second check awaited the runners who broke through onto a paved access road. Burning Lust chose to scout high, while Poontang went for the low option, in what turned out to be the correct route onto a sharp right-hand turn linking to Tai Tam Country Trail. From here the runners went on a long traverse on a narrow concrete path before passing a four way junction. A check back sent the runners back to the junction, whereupon Rooted instinctively led the way on a descending path of stairs eventually across a flat field and another descending patch of steps before hitting Sir Cecil's Ride. During this time the small group of Wimps had trudged along Sir Cecil's Ride for some 3kms. FreeWheel, was first to arrive at a U-turn leading down a false trail to a Check-Back. Meanwhile, the Rambos were coming thundering down towards the rejoin with Sir Cecil's, with Burning Lust demonstrating some high speed descent work in the dry and solid footing conditions. With CheesyFlyingFox's headlamp drawing upon the sight of BobbleDick needling his way along the stone path after the rejoin, he decided that it was indeed ON-ON after those already checking along Sir Cecil's and so there was no need to bother slowing down. And very soon after, he had nudged his way to the front, as GoBilow refused to get into high gear, citing lack of fitness and the need to stay housebound as a caregiver to Lemondrop. Once the Rambos had passed it was a lonely time for the Wimps and back-markers and very little of interest for them to comment on. But after joining Mt Butler Road, trail went up the road towards the quarry and left down between the old Government buildings and the covered reservoir. Then there was the usual cheeky bit of shiggy and bits of road down to Tai Hang Road. Finally trail went left and found its way down to the RHKYC via the HK Stadium, Gloucester Road and the Noon-Day Gun.
