Tung Chung

It sucks to be late for things but it sucks even more to be late to the LSW hash. And it’s a whole different level of suck when you realise that the commute from Central to Tung Chung takes longer than 30 minutes, and the Run Start is a good 6-7 minutes’ walk from the MTR exit.

By the time I got to A it was 7:20pm (my fault for not saying “Eff it!” to work and leaving the office on time) so after a quick hash briefing by the hare Gary Glitter I set off through the park and along the road. Not even three minutes into my run and a cloud of rain started dumping buckets, effectively wiping out the markings along the cycling track.

I was glad I listened to the hash briefing this time, as sure enough I found faint traces of flour leading me to Yi Tung Road and then up to the highway. A dead-end on the pedestrian track along the highway meant going down the steps but I missed the chalk markings going into the underpass… so I proceeded to run along the cycling track for 500 metres before realizing my mistake. Oh well, I guess I was not going to be able to catch up with the pack now!

Across the highway, then up into the shiggy where trail took me into a large “drain” (with words scribbled with chalk on the walls - something about getting our shoes wet). This was where I got excited, thinking that perhaps Gary Glitter would send us up the infamous Yellow Dragon river! But alas, the trail took me past the stream and back to concrete. Pooh.

Wimps went left and Rambos went up. It was here we started the huge elevation gain, just up and up and up. I was grateful for the cool weather which made things easier. There were some great views at the top of the mountain, and it was truly a joy to be running well and flying down those steps.

Back on the main road, then an underpass and a check. Plenty of scribbles / question marks on the checks but not one clear direction was marked - so I looked up and saw the blue glow of the Novotel hotel, which was where we started. Well, there was only one road leading there.. so it was essentially a long, flat, concrete slog back to Tung Chung until the petrol station. I lost trail for a bit but found it again along the small alley behind the petrol station, and then found Hopeless looking grumpy with the lack of trail markings. On left on Man Tung Road, and all the way back along the road to the run start. Thank you Gary Glitter for a great run!

Rooted: coming to the better hash unlike her partner

Octo and LIS: great minds think alike both wearing same T-Shirt from a hash in Tung Chung

Thermal D., Parky and ParknShop: non runners on trail

CUTR: preparing Octo to leave way early to get to the hash and still arriving just in time because he is mucking around here and there.

Hopeless to CUTR: presentation of a bag tag ‘Comes up the real’ as ‘rear’ did not pass the censors
