So the first typhoon of the year to hit Hong Kong finally gave us a T3, and a lot of rain. The rain was all much-needed, of course, since the rivers and reservoirs were all desperately dry after one of the driest spring we have experienced. But - we all know it is terribly inconvenient when there is so much rain on a Wednesday.

That said, Rooted took it all in stride and cleverly used “remnants of refused insurance claims” (as Hopeless puts it) to mark the trail, taking us up Tin Hau Temple Road right after the hash instructions (“only one trail, usual markings, have fun!”). A few checks led the pack up to Braemar Hill, and almost to the park where we sometimes start our LSW runs, only to take us down to Choi Sai Woo Park. Burning Lust, a little ahead of Pole Dancer and I, found true trail going up behind the park until we got to Sir Cecil’s Ride. There was plenty of fast running on contour trails until the FRBs were stopped at a check on Mt Parker Road.

This tricky check let the rest of the pack catch up, with Lubricated Trojan and Comes into my Tunnel leading the correct way up on the concrete steps. At this point Octopussy looked very sceptical but decided to tag along. Confusion ensued after we petered out at the end of the catchwater, and Lost in Translation said true trail probably went straight up into the shiggy. It turned out that she was right.

Comes into my Tunnel started leading the way up the dense trail followed by Wai Chee Kok (can someone please rename her?), Lost in Translation and me. However two seconds later we had to stop as Comes into my Tunnel had to use a stick to move the spider webs out of the way. So I volunteered as spider web-tribute and moved up the ranks to FRB (thank you to everyone who let me pass). By the time I topped out of the shiggy onto HK Trail I think my face was plastered with an inch of silk.

At this point I had to solve a few more checks - nope, not left, nope, not right to Siu Ma Shan - and following the “blobs” of shredded paper I went past the quarry and onto the catchwater, and finally onto Mt Butler Road. Then the “usual” trail behind the tennis courts, and on down all the way on home.

And the best part of the run? The “onsen” at the end to cool us all down, much to the locals’ amusement. Thank you Rooted for a great trail!

The hare - Rooted....... Too short, not enough shiggy uphill....

Rooted - thanks for setting run under the tough conditions of continuous rain for the whole day.......

Rooted - 'the run is 9 kms..... (gasps heard from the crowd!!)... all those who would like a short cut please stay behind!!!...... 'If you don't know Sir Cecil's ride you are f**ked! But if you do... then run along that trail until it goes to steps uphill on the right!! The steps will be on the right!! Then go up those steps but don't keep going to the top as that is the wrong way.... vear off on another path that has up and down bits....... then u will go down and join the trail........ Gary Glitter has chalk and will mark the way.....'

Rooted - Que??? all those who worked out this shortcut???.... None standing.....

Gary Glitter / Stinky Sex Toy / Crackpot / Tight Lips - went up the steps to the right as instructed.... but went too far... so decided that the best form of valour was to give in and run back to A... backwards.....

Gary Glitter - could not work out the shortcut so put a T on the steps instead.....

Hopeless - Suffering ankle injuries...... Did own version...... went up to steps at Braemar Hill lower park... and then did own version of run back...... Did he have inside info of where trail was going??

Inflato....... last seen on trail going backwards after the Braemar Hill lower park...... Said I ''Do you know you are going backwards to A?........ "yep.... as he rushed past!'

Burning Lust - (in absentia).... funny how last time he set a run that Rooted pissed off..... and now she set the run and he has pissed off????

Bubbleduck - Late for run.... did Sir Cecil's Ride then ran down path to Quarry Bay.... then ran for 5 kms to get back to A!

Octopussy - suggested I (Indy) should have done what Bubbles did... and then caught MTR back to Tin Hau 'Indy, carry your octopus!!'... Ha Ha from Octopussy!!
