Aberdeen

Hares - Poledancer & Screwtop
Write-up - Rooted

Crackpot's FB pics here and Screwtop's here

Skipping the part where we idle around discussing how hot it was, the hares gave a brief briefing. Cums Up the Rear did not feel this was enough of a briefing for the visitor, and so we had another not-so-brief briefing. This was not a problem as most of the pack were dealing with the dilemma of whether to do the wimp or Rambo trail as they started in opposite directions. Hopeless had no such qualms and had already started off up the hill so he could solve the first check. Finally, the rest of us decided it was time to start running, with most of the pack heading up the hill to do the Rambo route.

Unusually, the first check sent us up Peel Rise behind the cemetery. Another check within the cemetery saw Wai Chee Kok, as usual, disappear the wrong way with S3x Gone Too Far marking all possible directions with question marks under the impression that would somehow be more helpful than confusing … Anyway, Hopeless, CUTR and I continued (sensibly) up Peel Rise, enjoying the view for once in the daylight. Heavy breathing behind me alerted me to SGTF trying, on the hottest day of the year, to race up a hill. At the barrier, CUTR turned right, I turned left and SGTF clung to the barrier for dear life making strange noises that sounded like he was about to see his lunch again. Miraculously, I had again chosen correctly and SGTF soon zoomed past. Seeing an ‘on on’ at the junction of Hong Kong Trail / Peel Rise, I slowed down waiting for the inevitable check back. Father on than expected, but SGTF did eventually find it so it was back to the junction and up the … road? What was everyone doing? My thoughts were spoken aloud by Hopeless as I called “on on” having gone up the steps. Up, up and up. I was caught by late comer Cheesy Flying Fox who then had first dibs on the check. He chose the obvious way, so I honourably went right.

Finally on the Hong Kong Trail (section 3), CFF had again chosen the correct direction (right) while a few deluded others had gone left. I took off after CFF, though with little hope or expectation of seeing him again. I was finally caught by a couple of the deluded hashers, Gobi Lo and CUTR who were trying stealth tactics on the run by not calling. I like calling, not only does it alert other hashers as to where the trail goes (generally helpful) but it also alerts wild animals to your presence (definitely helpful). Further back on the trail, Dr Evil was losing his legendary zen patience when Oral Dysentery refused to move over when politely asked to. What was said cannot be repeated in polite (or any) company. Up ahead, we reached the steps back down to the upper reservoir, where CUTR seemed to need to double check that CFF really had found a ‘CB’ so ran past CFF’s helpful arrow. GLH and I decided the intelligent thing would be to follow the arrow.

Down, down and down to Aberdeen Reservoir Road. And the wimp/Rambo re-join. I lost sight of GLH, but did start meeting some of the wimps. Indy first, a pleasant surprise, though she thought I was Ivana Nuc*ck!?! Off the road and onto a path that wound round the lower reservoir, I managed to say hello to Kannot Finnish, Lost in Space and Free Wheel (the only wimp I did not meet on trail was Spinky McHu). Speaking of Spinky, she fell out of favour with FW and LiS by not marking the checks – leaving them to re-do the work! The horror! CUTR caught up with me at this point and we had a pleasant run together over the lower reservoir dam to find some crossed out markings. This disturbed CUTR who went searching to the left. Not that there was any trail that way. I followed the re-marked part of trail being able to reasonably assume that the wimps had come up this way and we were going back on their ‘out’ trail.

The run tonight, as I might have mentioned earlier, was full of deluded hashers. And it was not only CUTR who decided to check left on seeing crossed out markings. FW remarked that as he came over the dam he heard some strange noises and saw headlights dancing all over the place down by the dam. There was possible rattling of fences and lights bouncing up and down. SGTF owned up that he had gone down the stream bed, following old flour, though on a trail that the hares said was a runners’ run and had no shiggy, why??! But the question remained (until the down downs) as to who he was with. Southside Hash Toy’s name was mentioned, but she denied involvement.

Back on true trail, there was a little bit of shiggy to deal with as we navigated our way down a pipe, at times trusting to some very flimsy bits of wood over large holes. At this point, Po caught up though I immediately regretted letting him past as I was confronted by a snake. Having let it slither out the way, CUTR finally caught back up after his detour. Delinquency on trail was not yet over. As CUTR and I continued down the pipe, we were “hallooed” from above by Po who had managed to get lost (on a very well-marked trail I might add). Of course, there was a tempting shortcut before the pipe – straight down the road back to A. But all avoided it despite Hopeless attempting to entice Octo and SSHT onto it, so he could shortcut with impunity. Finally, we were back on road and it was a quick run in dodging children, animals and other street furniture. Po decided it was better to court death by running along the road rather than keep continuously dodging people on the pavement. All finally, safely in, just over 7.5km later. A well-marked, runners’ trail. Thanks, hares!

Indy’s circle. And so, eventually …

Hares – hoorah for run, excellent, fantastic, no complaints except for the weather

(Crackpot finally sorts out her camera)

This week’s and last week’s hares – Malcolm X did 8 recces vs 4 for this week, though the first was 6 months ago

Pole Dancer sent Indy on wimps, no choice, but she has flu so that’s ok, but liked being FRB so felt important. LiS also to drink as a wimp

Late arrivals (all of 3 minutes late) - Malcolm X, Jonathan, CFF and Indy

Screwtop told Indy to hurry up and go because she had to go and re-mark the in-trail

On MTR, Indy got a phone call from Bobble D1ck saying he was still at Clearwater Bay at 18:45, BD finally got to the run at 19:45

BD has to do run because he is on 899 runs!! Cannot be beaten by Hopeless, on 895. BD needs a body guard for the next week

800 contender but slipped behind – Macau Drunk on 853

Now BD looking to 1000 club …

CIMT passed Indy and thought she had done the Rambo and was doing really well!

Indy thought I was Ivana Nuc*ck (I’m still unsure about this)

Then Indy saw The Bastard – unexpected

Octo happy as could eat all the chicken feet, likewise Sticky on our table

Deep Shit – a returnee, visiting in-laws, here for his annual run (though not exactly one year ago, cue discussion about MD’s list) – he considered the run pleasant, but a bit chilly

The Bastard, another returnee, was here though a few weeks ago so back on list

Hares – for the slew of good comments from returnees about the trail

Another visitor - Ron Alexander (lookalike Jonathan)

[SST, SSHT and Crackpot try to sneak off] Back here Sticky for dd for being extremely interested in FW’s sex life and marriage

Crackpot for having to move onto campus with Sticky, not that Sticky is there much as she is too busy not being a virgin

SSHT must have enjoyed the trail as was running with The Bastard, chasing his arse (some question if this was not the other way round …)

SSHT - her bag is bigger than her, what is in there?

Jonathan – well done for doing 4 runs, but will miss next week as boss here

Next week’s hare (that would be me, and for some quips about BL’s last haring)

Screwtop – for noting in the write up that Indy was restrained in mentioning her cruise…. so Indy printed out pics, and tried to set a date for a doing a slideshow

Screwtop and Malcolm X - how spell Malcolm? With 2 ‘l’s

Malcolm X when set next run? Speechless!!! But apparently he volunteered to set LH4 with LiT

Deep Shit – hare for a year from now?

Malcolm X and Jonathan naming … maybe when they set a run together?

LiS thanks for being beer bitch

Matching t-shirts – LiS and CIMT

Macau Drunk - first on on for a while

From Malcolm via Hopeless - all Liverpudlians / Liverpool supporters so Screwtop, Pole Dancer, Deep Shit and a German (CIMT) had to withdraw specially designed beer all because of goalie mistakes

Another from Malcolm for the hares - suddenly there was “no no” not “on on”!

Indy again

CIMT following SGTF when he went the wrong way down at the lower reservoir

BD showing Indy his legs – fell down a Chinese mountain, or was he pushed…? How much did Hopeless pay CUTR?

BD flights from Tiger Leaping Gorge leave at wrong time, so booked on special flight to get back for the run count

Hares - thanks for great night / entertainment… what entertainment?
