Lost in Space & Motornouth

Write-up - Slippery Edge

Have you ever been on a hash and thought (maybe even voiced it) “Why the F are we going that way.. from here you could go to the left and then…this is the boring way down.. I could do far better from this point..” Not that I’m thinking of anyone in particular.. but that is exactly what Lost in Space thought the Sunday before whilst running with a lesser hash. And he was in luck. LSWH3 had had no confirmed hare. Motormouth stepped in at the last minute, and LiS galently offered to co-hare in order to be able to put his money where his mouth is and improve on the trail he had just an in Tseun Wan West.

So in order to adjudicate on the two versions it was necessary for me to head out that way again Wednesday evening. After spending a while washing sheets and towels and transforming Dog Shits apartment from family home back to a Bachelor Pad I arrived at A just before 7pm to find only the hare on a park bench. Gobi Lo had arrived and set out immediately on trail earlier, and I was thinking that maybe I would also be going solo. The co-hare was lost in the MTR station. Having been asked by LiS to come and find him at A, Motormouth headed to EXIT A and was confused about whether she should be at A1 or A2. Of course a true hasher knows that A means the run start - Thermal.

Fortunately a few more hashers turned up. Octopussy and Thermal DIck and the late arrival of Sticky Sex Toy meant a band of 4, with non-runner Tight Clit listening in, were told not to follow WH3 markings as the trail would deviate at moments. Also trail goes through a gate that could be now locked. After running out along the waterfront this meant the pack were confused in Belvedere Gardens as we could only find WH3 markings and weren’t sure if here was were LiS intended to deviate. Giving up we decided to just follow the WH3 route and once over Castle Peak Road we found an LSW marking to confirm we were going the right way. Trail went up a lot of steps and over the Tuen Mun Road and up more steps to Po Fung Road. On the flat for a bit here we then went UP (well it is Hong Kong) again to join the Yuen Tseun Ancient Trail. Thermal chivalrously waited after every climb for us slower hashers to catch up.

It was here that the trail went a different way to WH3. At a check I was put off going the right way by a cow with glowing eyes, but with Thermal in front it ran away. We headed to a look out point which rewarded us with an amazing view over Hong Kong with a Full(ish) Moon in the clear sky and we climbed a rock to touch the peak marking. Octo and myself cursed ourselves for not bringing a phone for the second week.

Trail then descended downwards through bamboo fields and gravestones. Thermal chivalrously pausing to wait for the two chatterboxes to catch up. Then we arrived at Allway Gardens, where the gate was unlocked, and then down a path to Tseun King Circuit, past the Adventist Hospital, through Tseun Wan and back to the Park.

Whilst out MM had found a Thai restaurant for the bash. After Octo and SST had spent about an hour in the shower we headed there for food and circle.

So the verdict: Definately better second time round, and longer. A contender for best trail of the fortnight.
