LSW 1600th run - Wednesday 28th November

Quarry Bay Park II

Hares: Hopeless & FFFM

Excitement had been running high for months with the build up to the 1600th run. Up until 4pm on the big day Hopeless was still sending out emails. So persistent were his emails in the last few days, that there was concern that he’d been afflicted by the same disease as Motormouth. Degenerative Persistent Nuisance emailing syndrome. Although we were able to follow what he was talking about.

It was a great turnout of 69 runners, 10 from Tight Lips office alone! One has to wonder what threats she used to get the 3 lost runners from last week to turn up again and convince 7 more virgins that we are a caring group of individuals. Big Bitch and Hash Cash managed to drag them selves away from the Villa in Spain and there were more Old Timers than you could poke a stick at. After a quick reminder of our marking the pack set off in the direction of Quarry Bay Park I, through the park, over a couple of footbridges, and onto the newly installed Fireboat on the waterfront in the park.

Now over to Hopeless for a very detailed description of the run:

Out of the park by the Lei Yee Mun ferry, a couple of checks and onto Grandiose Plaza, and then back to the waterfront of the typhoon shelter. From here the run turned inland, past CityGolf Driving Range, across Shau Kei Wan Road, and to the steps on Sai Wan Ho Street. A 3-way check took the hash up the long series of checks, and a check back on Yiu Hing Road, below Yiu Tung Housing Estate. The run went west along a contour path and another check back, then another set of steps and through some bushes and onto the Yiu Hing Road. Across the road led to a second 3-way check, once again going …. up steps. BUT, with the repeat of a westerly turn, the hash was treated to a long contour path along to the reservoir above Kornhill Estate.

A Rambo loop taking in a set of iron steps and a series of scrambles brought them back to the Wimps trail which rang alongside the steps that lead up to the top level reservoir. The route double backed down the steps and then a left turn into "Tai Tam Park, Quarry Bay Extension", as sign posted!

The trail went to "shiggy" with plenty of trees and cover, water pipes, and eventually coming out to the main Wimp/Rambo split on the path up from Mount Parker Lodge. The Rambos went up to the Mount Parker route, a long, winding, but flat contour path for the Rambos to enjoy a nice sprint in the cool ambient night. Wimps threaded their way down to Mount Parker Lodge and the "on home".

Rambos were handed two options when coming out onto Mount Parker Road by the "Ag' & Fish' Centre", turn left and a sprint down Mount Parker Road, or a right turn to intercept the Wimps run just at the end of the country park.

It was a great run with plenty of checks to keep the pack together and enough fences to hurdle to test our flexibility. Unfortunately a few Rambos missed the second split and had to contend with wimping the last section home. The wimps were back in around 70 minutes with Sweaty leading in the Rambos only 5 minutes later.

Taking no chances with lost hashers this week, Filthy followed up the rear steering home the walkers just in time for a quick shower, then off to the Bash.

It was probably one the busiest nights the “Thai Best” has seen in awhile as they tried to accommodate 63 hungry and thirsty hashers. The food, beer and conversation flowed smoothly until Indy and Sweaty rendered Down Downs, with a little help from "Ted Turdburgler" who gave an entertaining history of the LSW hash.

The Down Downs were numerous and here are just a few:

Big Bitch moaning about the cost of the beer.

Frank the Plank for rubbing it in about how the Irish can get Chinese visas for half the price.

Indy had a bad hair day and missed the run.

All the Grey Haired Hashers.- Bobble Dick,Jeez Wayne, Barbie & Parky

Tom Turk, looking like a bumble bee.

Whiplash breaking her leg so she couldn’t run.

Bondi can only set a run if the tides are right.

Turdburgler’s hash history

After the bash, it was on to the East End Brewery for a night cape and a quick game of “How many patrons eyes can you knock out with one toss of a basket full of peanuts”.
